ABOUT SAFIR GT40 SPARES LTD.

Safir GT40 Spares Ltd, is the official GT40 trademark holder and is dedicated to accurate GT40 history.

Safir GT40 Spares, Limited was established in 1999 by Brady Pack, John Sadler, and Bob Wood to provide spare parts and technical assistance to all GT40 owners, in particular the Mk V version. Following the completion of the 40th and final GT40 Mk V, serial number GT40-P-1145, the remaining parts, body molds, casting patterns, and manufacturing drawings were shipped from Byfleet England to the Safir GT40 Spares offices in Milford, Ohio USA.

Ford GT Prototype

Built early 1964 at Ford Advanced Vehicles in Slough, just west of Heathrow Airport. This car suffered from aerodynamic issues therefore unstable at high speed. Constant modification would eventually solve the high speed stability issue. Twelve of these vehicles were constructed.

Ford GT40P Mark I, Mark II, Mark III

Started building early 1965 at Ford Advanced Vehicles in Slough.
The P stands for production. These cars were available to the public. January 1, 1967 JW Engineering took over production, same building same address.
A Mark II won Lemans in 1966.
A Mark I won Lemans in 1968.
A Mark I won Le Mans in 1969.

Ford J Car, Mark IV

Designed and built in the USA by Ford, the first J-Car was ready for testing early 1966. Twelve of these cars were built but not available to the public. J-5 won lemans in 1967.

GT40P Mark V Safir Engineering

Constructed at Brooklands, Byfleet UK by Safir with the support and backing of both Ford and JW Engineering. Forty of these cars were built.

GT40P Superformance Continuation Mark I.

Presently constructing GT40s and licensed to use the GT40 trademark by Safir GT40 Spares Co. Cars are manufactured by Hi Tech South Africa and carry the GT40 nameplate with sequential serial numbers. Hi Tech is the only GT40 manufacturer to build the complete monocque chassis in house. Most parts of this SPF GT40 interchange with the 60s production.

GT40 makes history

1966

GT40 cars took 1st 2nd and 3rd place in the Le Mans, making history as the first time a North American car wins.

1967

Another win for Ford at Lemans, this time with the Mark IV J-Car.

1968 - 1969

For the first time ever in Le Mans history, the same car GT40 Chassis # P-1075 won first place two successive years.

Although there was considerable publicity in the past and especially when the GT40 Mark V was launched in 1981, this was over thirty years ago and for this reason I have been requested to compile the Mark V story for all the GT40 Owners, Enthusiasts and Motoring Media.
